Wai O Tapu geothermal area

Only half an hour from Riverside Apartment, visit this surreal wonderland

A great day out, easy walks and ideal for kids

Travel north-east on State Highway 5 towards Rotorua to find this amazing geothermal area.

Well-marked paths vary in distance so this is an ideal place to take children (as long as they are old enough to follow directions or they are able to be monitored). The walking times and distances vary from a short loop around the champagne pool (1.5km, approximately half an hour) to a 3km distance to take in the more distant pools and waterfalls. Beautifully presented walks through the native bush are complimented by the unique sights of this unforgettable place.

Huge volcanic craters, bubbling mud pools, geysers and the famous 'champange pool' are certainly sights that will stay with you for a long time.

There is a gift shop and visitor centre with cafe on site and Wai O Tapu is a perfect stop-off when travelling between Taupo and the tourist mecca of Rotorua.
